Performance: the slowest card.
Power consumption: has passive cooling system, don't need additional power, very hot.
Outs: DL-DVI + DVI.
Other: 32 bit EFI only, occupies 1 slot.

2. ATI Radeon x1900XT 512 Mb

- temperatures in Celsius

When the system is idle it looks like this:

I read that this is a normal temperature distribution: CPU A is warmer than CPU B because the air flow has to go through the heat sink of CPU B first.
Until now I was under the impression that CPU(Tdiode) temp + Relative to ProHot = max operating temp for the CPU:
- CPU A: 44 + 60 = 104
- CPU B: 36 + 71 = 107
For what ever reason CPU B does have a higher limit.

MP5,1: What you have to do to upgrade to Mojave

Mojave will only install if you have upgraded your BootROM and your Mac Pro have a Metal capable GPU.

If you are trying to install Mojave on a Mac Pro 5,1 (2009 updated to 5,1 firmware, 2010 and 2012), you have first to upgrade your BootROM to version MP51.0089.B00 and to High Sierra 10.13.6, then you can install a Metal capable GPU and install Mojave.

You can read the Apple Support article here: Install macOS 10.14 Mojave on Mac Pro (Mid...

GPU ROM issues

I've got a EVGA GTX 680 4GB and a His R9 280X

I found a Mac rom here for each card and flashed, and happily have a boot screen, but in each case I get all sorts of colors and distorted image when loading into OS X.

Any tips? Especially in the case of the 680 when the bios had been successfully used by other EVGA 4gb users.

With both cards I found a rom that was as close a match as possible (the 680 is a higher clocked version of the same card, the 280 was a shot in the dark lol)

HDMI / Displayport audio fix

thunder72fr made a post in the PULSE RX580 ROM study thread about that he can get HDMI audio working properly in Mojave with just Lilu.kext and AppleALC.kext installed.

I further tested it on my own cMP and confirmed it can work. And the process is simpler than HDMIAudio.kext + AppleHDA.kext patch.

Just FYI. I tried a EVGA 1660 today in my 5,1, had full boot screen.

Of course, no Mojave support for me, but I only need 3d in windows... Bringing me to my next point, hangs on Boot if I try to go into Windows.

So, full boot screen, haven't been able to load Windows.

I'll play more today.

I have tried PRAM resets by the way. Trying to boot to windows just results in hanging at a white screen

Highpoint 7101A - PCIe 3.0 SSD performance for the cMP

Introduction

Stumbling into an Amazon warehouse Deal, I picked up the HighPoint 7101a NVMe PCIe adapter, equipped with a MacPro friendly Broadcom 8747 PCIe bridge at a great price. While Highpoint's acknowledgement of MacPro compatibility was sketchy at best, I ordered one to go along with a recently acquired Samsung 970 Pro NVMe Boot drive.

The good folks at egpu.io have had some encouraging results with the latest Gigabyte TB3 add-in card and will be testing in MP 5,1. Will be very interesting to see the results.

I have a thought. So the new Mac Pro is allegedly going to be announced in June at WWDC. There are also numerous rumors of apple changing archs again over to in-house ARM CPUs "by 2020". This new "modular" Mac Pro has been delayed twice now I think. It was originally rumored to be out in late 2017, then 2018. And now here we are.
Well if Apple really IS going to go to in-house CPUs by next year; why would they announce a new computer, especially one as important as this one in mid-2019,...

Hello,

I recently acquired an old Mac Pro 1,1 and have been trying to update it to version 2,1 in order to facilitate better processors, but after trying nearly everything I can think of I am still unable to perform the update.

As I have done so much it will be neater if I post it in bullets:

Greetings!
Need help in designing of useful item for MacProOwners – efficient power cable for GPU.

Short reading
I am designing the MAGIC cable to power GPU from SATA effectively. Need help. Anybody will be able to buy it from the workshop directly.

Long reading
High performance GPUs need a lot of power. PCIE and onboard dual 6 pins power is not enough. We make PIXLAS mod or use SATA power. Let’s speak on SATA to GPU cables.
I, for example, use the following scheme: SATA –>...

Moving iTunes and audio to external drive?

I’ve done this before but it was many years ago, several OSes ago and before 5,1. My 2TB OS Drive is getting very full. My iTunes library is fairly big. I’m thinking of offloading it to another drive, either internal in another bay or external. Any gotchas? Anything I should be concerned about? Any reason not to?

Update: Beginning of thread is mostly NVME related. Work for replacing internal GPU with a 3rd-party GPU starts later in the thread (in progress). The thread is still active. Questions and comments for both NVME and GPU are welcome.

Update: On Mac Pro (late 2013) don't mix APFS and NTFS on same NVMe drive. This will cause frequent and random kernel panics if also using Apple's first-party NTFS driver! Third-party NTFS driver such as by Microsoft/Paragon will still cause...

Hi, I will share some benchmarking done running the Radeon VII on my Mac Pro 5,1. It has the pixlas mod (PCIe power breakout cable from the PSU mobo-connector) done on it, so I have no power issues. I tested it with the Vega 10 driver, and the Vega 12 driver which resulted in freezes. The Vega 12 driver only activates 20 compute units, while the Vega 10 driver will utilise the full 60.

In short, one can add the card's ID 0x66AF1002 to the AMDRadeonX5000.kext’s Info.plist in macOS 10.14.4...

I was wondering if someone could check the rom I created for this GPU with the 7xxx rom creating Commands. I will have the Original Rom and the Created rom. I want to make sure the rom will be EFI compatible with my Mac Pro to get the Boot Screens and Bootloader. My current EFI for the mac is MP31.006C.B05.
