MacPro 3,1 and NVMe SSD

I have Toshiba RC100 (2x PCIe 3.0) on a Icy Box PCIe adapter in my MacPro 3,1. In theory this would be able to run at 5Gbps on 2 lanes. However I get the following results:
Slot 2 (16x slot): 2.5Gbps, 2x (best performance, but right above the fan of my AMD7950)
Slot 3 and 4 (4x slots): 2.5Gbps, 1x

I have read a thread on this forum (that I can not find back) that this combo should run 5Gbps, 2x in slot 3 or 4. What am I doing wrong?

On the bright side, the MacPro does boot from this drive....

Trends toward modular Mac Pro

25 years ago Apple Computer (the rainbow logo company) responded** to a very enthusiastic proposal for a modular Macintosh. It was a concept based on the common ideology of the day. Fat Mac's sitting on top of fat hard drives with multiple power cords.

In 1992, towers of computing were adorable beige constructions. It seemed plausible at the time if someone would delete the small black and white monitor and present the processing unit in a small box, it would look like an external hard...

Flashing R9 280X for boot screens/PCI System Information

I have a 2006 Mac Pro running Yosemite (thanks Pike!) and now on to "fit and finish" nits to make it work.

I got an MSI R9 280X Gaming 3GB video card, and it worked great out-of-the-box, but I wanted to get boot screens and get it recognized in the PCI section of System Information. I chose this card because it's not too expensive, and clearly others have had good compatibility experiences in Mac Pros with Mavericks and...

I'm looking to upgrade my 2010 Mac Pro with dual Xeon 5680s and came across a matched pair on eBay.

I asked the seller if they had b1 stepping he looked on the bois and found this 06-2c-2 he only had a server to test so couldn't download CPU-Z or other apps to check.

Is there another way of telling if a CPU has B1 Stepping?

Hello all. Have a 2006 Mac Pro 1.1 flashed to 2.1, running OS X El Capitan 10.11.16.

My trusty rig never had Bluetooth capabilities, but I wanted to add it. From all the research I've done, I have three options:
1- A1115 922-7289 card for BT 2. Very cheap but old BT version.
2- Broadcom BCM94360CD mini PCI-E card for BT 4. Modern BT but card extremely expensive.
3- USB Micro Adapter like IOGEAR GBU521 for BT 4. Cheap and modern BT.

I went with option 3 and got that specific adapter. Popped...

NVMe with ST-NGFF2013-C; Vega Internal GPU; Mac Pro 2013 (6,1)

Update: Beginning of thread is mostly NVME related. Work for replacing internal GPU with a 3rd-party GPU starts later in the thread (in progress). The thread is still active. Questions and comments for both NVME and GPU are welcome.

Update: On Mac Pro (late 2013) don't mix APFS and NTFS on same NVMe drive. This will cause frequent and random kernel panics if also using Apple's first-party NTFS driver! Third-party NTFS driver such as by Microsoft/Paragon will still cause...

Used Mac Pros for sale - Good Deal!

OWC has apparently come across some 4,1 and 5,1 Mac Pros that they're selling as being in "fair" cosmetic condition. I just bought a single processor 4,1 for $459.00 shipped with a 90 day warranty. Not sure how ugly it is, but I've been looking for a 4,1 to upgrade from my current 3,1, and for this kind of money I can take a risk. The higher spec'ed ones didn't look to be as good of a deal, but those are not ones I've been researching for acquisition....

Hi there,

So my needs are the following: web development (ergo vms) and reencoding old vids into new space-efficient codecs (random **** codec > hevc). I also do graphic design, so photoshop/illustrator/indesign/affinity/pixelmator and pdf generation etc. Eventually, I want to load it up with storage (like a few Mobius TB's) and use it as a ZFS NAS. Maybe once I have the new machine I will dabble into producing videos but it's not in the pipeline atm. Oh, and silence. I'm done with winy...

I am looking for the most affordable solution for the PCIE 3 or 4 Slot (up to 1500 GB/s). It seems that using NVMe SSD's in slot 3/4 is not ideal, but for SATA SSD's it seems more suitable.

It seems that are a few Dual/Raid PCie Adapter Cards that are SATA:...

Hi,

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 which was running High Sierra with two 24" Apple Cinema displays connected to an AMD Radeon 7950 Mac Edition. One display was connected to one of the mini display port inputs on the AMD card and the other via a mini display port to DVI adapter into the DVI port.

Under all previous versions of OS X that I have run this has worked perfectly with both monitors working. However after upgrading to Mojave the monitor connected to the DVI port no longer displays a...

Properly format Samsung 970 evo

Hi all
Just received my Samsung 970 evo 500gb and lycom dt 120. Anyways I was wondering how to properly format it because it’s showing up as a external drive for some reason, not sure if this is correct. Currently on 140.0.0.0.0 bootrom, and successfully booted high Sierra but it’s showing up like an external drive instead of an internal drive.
Here is a snapshot of disk utility.

HDMI / Displayport audio fix

thunder72fr made a post in the PULSE RX580 ROM study thread about that he can get HDMI audio working properly in Mojave with just Lilu.kext and AppleALC.kext installed.

I further tested it on my own cMP and confirmed it can work. And the process is simpler than HDMIAudio.kext + AppleHDA.kext patch.
