Anyone happen to game on a 5.1 with an RTX 2060?

Hey Guys & Possibly Girls
As title states, wondering if anyone has the Nvidia RTX and a Mac Pro 5.1 and happen to game?
Stating the obvious with Windows, wondering what your results are like if you'd be willing to share.

I made a thread like a month ago asking if people were still happy with their 5.1 in 2019 as I started to build a gaming PC and I'm just not happy with the quality behind it all and looking around eBay I can pretty much pick up a battered but working 5.1 for another 50% the...

Mp 4,1 Firmware Lock Issue

Hi,

while browsing to buy a dual cpu mp5,1 I came across a single cpu 4,1 (MB871) where the seller explicitly states that the "drive is unbootable" and that the machine has a firmware lock. He attached photos of a boot-screen that shows a lock and a password field below it.

I did some research, and it seems that switching out ram-sticks and resetting pram will solve the issue, however it seems it's not always the case. Since I don't want to buy 'a cat in a bag' I thought I ask here....

Blade SSDs - NVMe & AHCI

I'm making this thread to put together some general info on the blade SSDs that can be used in the Mac Pro. NVMe SSDs can be used as a boot drive in the Mac Pro 5,1 and 6,1 with the latest firmware installed (140.0.0.0.0 for MP5,1). Note that blade SSDs installed in a Mac Pro 5,1 are limited to ~1,500 MB/s unless installed on a PCIe switch card in slot 1 or 2 such as a HighPoint 7101 or Amfeltec Squid that converts the Mac Pro PCIe 2.0 x16 to the PCIe 3.0 x4 needed for full throughput. Getting UI Text to display better on MacPro 2010 + Benq PD3200U

Hi there.

I received delivery of my Benq PD3200U 4K monitor today and I adore it... the size and sharpness and colour accuracy right out of the box is just a joy to behold. Only problem is... in the 4K I can really see UI menus in certain apps as they are just so small and the software doesn't allow any major UI adjustments.

Is there anyway around this... I don't really want to drop down in resolution... as the 4K viewing experience is superb... and I have tried lower resolutions and the...

Best 4K monitor for MP 5,1?

I've spent a great deal of time researching monitors and have narrowed it down somewhat, although it seems today's 4k monitors all have issues. The technology simply is not very good.

RIght now, I am deliberating between the Dell UP3219Q, the HP DreamColor Z32, and the LG 32UD99.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Attached is one review of the top monitors. Take it with a grain of salt. 8.0 seems to be the highest rating.

Issues with the three I have picked:

I need a bigger better GPU for my 2010 mac pro 3.33 running Sierra and having already tried a GTX 970 with the software I need it for , I know nvidia cards will not work , so it has to be AMD.

Unfortunately the Sapphire Pulse 8gb RX580s are rare as hens teeth here in Australia. They can go as high as $600 and I ain't paying that sort of loot for one. Unfortunately I want one to use with Trainz simulator, which isn't optimized for Metal and due to the ability of players to make their own...

FOLKS, THIS WILL WRITE TO THE CARD EEPROM AND INCORRECT USAGE COULD RENDER YOUR CARD USELESS. THESE STEPS ARE SPECIFIC TO MY INTEL X520-DA2 10GbE CARD ONLY. HOWEVER, WITH SOME WORK THEY CAN BE ADAPTED TO WORK ON MOST INTEL NETWORK CARDS, BOTH 1GbE and 10GbE.
PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Hello all,

I have a small annoying little experience that I wonder if its common or normal.
I have installed an name drive "samsung 970 eco" in my Mac Pro 2010, it boots up and all seems to be working, until....... I discovered that it takes very long time for it to boot.
I measured the time between the chime and apple logo to be around 25 seconds. And I had disconnected everything, all USB ports, no usb three card.

I started to search for possible causes, but nothing helped, pram,...

Hi everyone, I mentioned what happened in the delidding thread, but I'd like to make a new one, hopefully somebody can help.
Here's what happened:
My Mac Pro was running firmware 5.1, Sierra and all stock hardware (2x2.26 CPUs, 6GB 1066RAM etc)
I delidded 2 x5680s and put them in, slightly ruined the side of the pcb on one of them, I put the ruined one in slot B.
Everything powered up and both Cpus were recognised, but 2 mem sticks on the cpu B side were not recognised.
I shut down and tried...

Was my 12-core CPU upgrade futile?

Mac Pro 5,1
Went from a quad core imac to a dual X5690 tower.

I thought video rendering, encoding, converting, photo editing, etc.. would all be much faster with 12 cores.
However, according to activity monitor, none of these programs use more than 4 cores. Some only use 2 or 3. None of them have settings to increase core usage. One does, but nothing changes when I change the setting.

Using iMovie, Handbrake, Wondershare, WinXDVD, Gimp among a couple of others.

What gives? Was this...

MAC PRO 4,1 and 5,1 PCIe AUX Power

The Mac Pro 4,1 & 5,1 have plenty of PCIe AUX power, unless you need more than 300 watts for your GPU(s). Remember you get 75 watts from the PCIe slot. Each PCIe AUX 6 pin connector in the Mac Pro towers delivers 150 watts. Yes all three power pins in both of the PCIe AUX plugs are connected. The PCIe specifications don't required pin number two to have power, but it also does not prohibit it either. In the MAC Pro 4,1 / 5,1 it is connected. To be clear, this delivers the same power as a 8...

Powersaving on MP5.1 - Disable CPU or Cores

Since a week i can call me a proud owner of a Dual 6-Core MacPro 5.1. I also own a 1.1, 3.1 and 4.1 :D Now i was wondering if it is possible to reduce power consumption of this MP5.1 by software.

I always try to save power. For example I used next to the MP4.1 (110-280Watt) a Mini (21-38Watt). So i only switched to the MP4.1 when some power was needed. Or I experimented using the 3.1 with one or 2 CPUs and also swapped the X-Xeon (130W TDP) to an E-Xeon (95W TDP) and L-Xeon (50W TDP).

Now...

SAS RAID controller for Mac Pro 5,1

Hello all,

I'm seeking some advice on which SAS RAID controller to get for my Mac Pro 5,1. I've seen some other threads(on this site and elsewhere) that have discussed this topic, all of which contain good info, but seem a bit dated. Just posting this here in an effort to see if there is some more up to date advice I can receive.

I just picked up a Mac Pro 5,1 from ebay. It has macOS High Sierra. I also picked up 4 x 4TB SAS hard drives. Now all I need is a RAID controller to make it all...
