Introduction

Stumbling into an Amazon warehouse Deal, I picked up the HighPoint 7101a NVMe PCIe adapter, equipped with a MacPro friendly Broadcom 8747 PCIe bridge at a great price. While Highpoint's acknowledgement of MacPro compatibility was sketchy at best, I ordered one to go along with a recently acquired Samsung 970 Pro NVMe Boot drive.

Pixlas 4.1 Mac Pro mod

I'm creating a thread for my 4.1-->5.1 mod to keep everything in one place.

I will document my upgrade to X5690, PCIe SSD (Apple SSUBX) and PSU mod to allow for two modern gfx cards using only the internal PSU.

I have gotten my Mac Pro now (2x 2.26GHz) 4.1 from 2009. It had one Nvidia 120GT and one Nvidia 8800GT, 12GB ram and a few external scratches =) Price was $680 in March 2015.

I have ordered de-lidded X5690 CPUs that are being delivered. ($599 for package with dual de-lidded CPUs...

Hi, had a good search but cannot find anyone that has had this issue. I have upgraded multiple Mac Pro 5.1 (some 2012 and some 2010) to Mojave, as well as adding X5680 CPUs and 128GB of memory, all have gone OK until this one.

After the CPUs and Memory were upgraded (fans were normal before), the fans now run at full speed... swapping the Processor Tray into another Mac and the full fans issue follows the Processor Tray. I then compared the system info of both trays in the same Mac...

Any way to get Sapphire 7950 Mac Edition to run in 10.6.8 with driver support?

I have a Mac Pro (4,1->5,1) that I just installed a Sapphire 7950 Mac Edition card into, and I'd like to find out if anyone knows any workarounds to get it to run with official (or at least semi-official) driver support in 10.6.8.

The situation is that I have two boot drives: one is 10.9.4 and the other is 10.6.8. I have to keep 10.6.8 because I have FCS3 installed on it and I have to be able to use it for some things.

Of course the 7950 is fully supported in 10.9.4, but in 10.6.8, even...

Any way to get Sapphire 7950 Mac Edition to run in 10.6.8 with driver support?

Hello!

I’d like to upgrade a 2012 5,1 to High Sierra from Sierra. It currently has 1080ti’s in it.

Which natively supported GPU should I get so that the OS update runs smoothly/visibly/etc?

Also if there are any pitfalls to watch out for do let me know.

I've read through many threads over the years, but don't think I've ever encountered a straight answer to this, or if it was there, I totally missed it.

Let's say I upgraded to the Apple recommended Sapphire Radeon RX 580 Pulse. I know I would lose the bootscreen that I currently have with my flashed 7950.

However, would the different startup options still exist if I booted with the option key, even though they are not displayed? Could I blindly choose to boot into Windows 10 or my...

Preview

I'm using Preview to print a phone bill. It retains the logo and picture but garbles information by putting square outlines instead of my information - name address account number. It retains the amount of the bill etc. It does not do this when I open it in Adobe Acrobat. I need to use Preview, though. Why is it garbling information and is there a way to make it not do this? Hi, I have a Mid 2010 5,1 with 3.33GHz processor (6 core) and the old ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB video card. 12GB RAM and 500GB SSD.

Exporting video in iMovie or any sort of transcoding in Handbrake takes a long time. I also do a moderate amount of work in Adobe Lightroom.

Is it worth upgrading the GPU to a Sapphire Radeon Pulse RX 580 and installing Mojave?

How much of a difference will a new GPU make in keeping my 5,1 alive for video processing. I don't do this for a living. Is it time...

Good night,

Hoping someone has idea what could be going on with my 6,1 Mac Pro. Thank you in advance for any insight you can provide!

Machine

A 2013 Mac Pro that I purchased used from Amazon in early 2015. It was a returned model, with only a slight blemish on the back. It was the quad core 3.7Ghz model with 12GB of RAM, 256GB SSD and two D300s. All was well for 3 years. I basically had no issues except for a few sleep wake problems which I attributed to my Dell 2715Q monitor...

Alright, here's my situation:

I'm currently running High Sierra from a PCIe SSD. This is a 256gb drive from a "trash can." The owner of the computer had filled it to the brim, and I installed a 2TB OWC drive for him-he then gave me the original 256gb, which made its way into my MP via a PCIe adapter.

I'm booting High Sierra(most recent PB) from the drive. I did a clean install and have it formatted APFS. When I first installed the drive, it was VERY slow both in use and as measured by...

Short reading
I am designing the MAGIC cable to power GPU from SATA effectively. Need help. Anybody will be able to buy it from the workshop directly.

Has anyone tried using some of the latest HDDs in their Mac Pros?

I've read past threads here with some people having issues with 8TB hard drives mounting properly. I haven't had any issue with 6TB Black or 8TB Red Pro drives.

Any insight would be appreciated!

I have two Mac Pros 5,1 3.46 gz. My main one is early 2009. The other one is mid 2010. I'd like to put two SSD 4TB drives in the 2009 but I don't see any available for the 5,1 at OWC. I see the largest compatible is 2TB. Can I put a 4TB in these, or is there some strange limitation?

Guys I have problem trying to do a fresh Mojave install on a OWC 6G SSD.. The card is plugged in a PCI-E x4..But it don't matter if its in a PCI-E X 16 (Still the same problem) When booting off the USB drive.. Disk utility doesn't see the SSD drive.. Also, I tried to boot from a normal 3.5" hard drive (which has Mojave installed). My mac will boot-up with the 3.5" drive. However, when I fit the SSD (For cloning). The Mac Pro 2008 won't boot-up.. Whats going on.. I was hoping to clone...
